Dinner4Eight Resumes in the Fall

What makes Bruton "tick"? It's the camaraderie and friendships formed in our congregation and a wonderful way to do that is through the Fellowship Ministry known as "Dinner 4 Eight" (D48). The D48 ministry comprises parishioners who commit to meeting in small groups called mixes several times throughout  a "Mix" season, which runs from September through May. The purpose is to get to know other members of your Bruton "family" in more intimate settings.  Mixes stay together throughout the season in order to allow you to develop that familiarity. Former participants have said that at first they weren't sure what they had in common with other mix members, but after sharing several meals, they realized they had more similarities than differences and some strong friendships have been formed.

Although the title has "dinner" in it, this ministry is more about getting together to break bread in a variety of venues. For instance, if the people in your mix can only meet for brunch on Sunday, then your mix could have the nickname "Brunch 4 8." In the past, we have had "Bowling 4 8," "Mini Golf 4 8," "Lunch at a Local Restaurant 4 8," and some others - you get the picture.  Also, a mix can have anywhere from six to eight people, depending on seasonal interest.     There are only three "rules":

Rule # 1:  We have found that this program is most successful if you can commit to participating in the full season with your assigned mix, barring unforeseen circumstances, of course. If you know in advance that you will be gone for extended periods between September and May, perhaps a different Fellowship might be a better choice.

Rule # 2: While a group coordinator will be assigned, members take turns hosting the venues such that each person or couple gets a chance to host the rest of the couples in the mix. Remember, the host picks the venue and makes the gathering arrangements, but need not be solely responsible for the food or costs.

Rule # 3:  The most important rule: EAT! This is not a diet club!

On September 7 at 6:00 p.m. in Lewis Hall, we will hold a pot-luck Kick-off dinner for the 2012-2013 season. That's your first opportunity to show off your culinary skills (or your ability to select the best shrimp salad at Fresh Market!). Bring a covered dish or dessert of your choice - no sign-up necessary! If you know you definitely want to join this season, please email to Dinner4Eight@brutonparish.org or call Les and Michele Hoffman at (757-253-9877) or Mike and Jeanne Millin (757-258-4724) and give your name, address, and phone number. If you are not sure if you want to join and have more questions, you are more than welcome to come to the pot-luck Kick-off and ask questions and mingle. There will be a sign-up sheet available and mixes will be assigned by the D48 committee before the end of the dinner. If you can't make it to the pot-luck, but still want to be in a mix, you can contact the D48 committee using the email or phone numbers given.
