We have all been there. You pull up to an intersection and there is a person with a hand written sign begging. What do you do? Well, one answer is a manna bag. Just what is a manna bag? It is a gallon zip-lock bag with good stuff in it. A manna bag will contain food that can be opened and eaten without having to have a can opener or having to cook it. It will also contain something to drink and, maybe most importantly, a clean pair of socks. Clean socks and foot care are a major issue for many homeless people. In short it is an unexpected gift of good stuff to nourish and support — sort of like manna was to the Israelites in the desert.
With the help of our youth, the Mission Committee will have manna bags available on Monday, November 5. You can pick one up from the receptionist at the Parish House. There is no charge, but the bags cost about $5 to put together. Any donation will go back into the Mission budget to help more people. Think about keeping a bag in your car. It can make more of a difference than you might imagine.
