Sweet Discourse: Dr. Carl Lounsbury

The next in the series of Bruton Guides' sponsored Sweet Discourse presentations will take place on Wednesday, May 22, at the Parish House. The speaker will be Dr. Carl Lounsbury who will provide an update on the excavations at the 1617 Church in Historic Jamestown where the first representative assembly met 400 years ago in the summer of 1619.  He will also discuss Bruton in the architectural context of early Virginia churches.
    Dr. Lounsbury, from 1982 until his recent retirement was a member of the Architectural Research Department at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the College of William & Mary and is a greatly respected authority on early American architecture. He frequently serves as a consultant in design and architectural research for museums, historical societies, and state agencies. He has written for many periodicals and authored a number of books including Bruton Parish Church, An Architectural History.
    The evening will begin at 6:30 with coffee & cookies followed by the program at 7pm.  Plan now to attend what promises to be a highly informative and interesting event!
