SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL

Summer Worship for Families Continues!  During the summer months, while our formal Church School program is on hiatus, we continue to offer our children ages 5-12 a half-hour multi-age program – Seasons of the Spirit – with story and art reflecting on the scripture for the day.  The program begins on Sunday at 9 o'clock in Lewis Hall and the kids, teachers and helpers walk to the church to join the congregation for Communion.  Teachers will be here, so bring your children as early as 8:45 a.m.; the nursery is open from 8:30 a.m. through the 11:15 a.m. service for infants and younger children.  The themes for the month are:

August 1 - Soul Investment
August 8 - Living into the Promise
August 15 - Restore Us
August 22 - Healing Reign
August 29 - Open Table

SUNDAY SCHOOL AFTER SUMMER

Sunday School Classes: Kindergarten - Fifth Grade

Sunday School classes are held at the Parish House after the 9 a.m. service for three and four year olds, Kindergarten through 5th graders, and Middle School and High School students.  The younger children are taught traditional Bible stories through a Rotation model using storytelling, arts, drama and games.  Each class (K-1, 2-3, 4-5) has two teachers that are with the group all year to create a meaningful community of learners.  Everyone, including parents, hear the story together, then the classes rotate through art, drama, and games to enrich the story.

Sunday School Classes: Middle - High School

The older children (middle and high school) are involved in Acting with Christ: Your Journey with GodWe use several published curriculums, the Episcopal Curriculum for Youth, Journey-to-Adulthood and others as resources (other resources are used such as novels, movies, newspapers, magazines, non-fiction works, and guest speakers/parishioners).  We look at how Christ is calling us to act in the world, and how we respond to that call.  We learn about and discuss topics such as spirituality, relationships, diversity, peace and justice.  Pathfinders with Christ are grades 6th, 7th & 8th, and Travelers with Christ are 9-10th and 11-12th grades.  If you have a child interested in participating in Sunday School or would like to know more about these programs, please email Leslie Coe, Childrens' Ministry, or call 757-229-2891.
