Christian Formation for Children & Youth
If you have any questions regarding the offerings below, please contact our Coordinator of Children's & Youth Formation, Meghan Brewer.
A nursery is provided at the Parish House for newborns through 4-year olds from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. every Sunday.

Children’s Church
While children are always welcome in church, we also offer an age-appropriate Liturgy of the Word for children (kindergarden through 5th grade) in St. Mary’s Chapel from 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. every Sunday (please visit the homepage of the website to see the schedule for each Sunday). If Children's Church is being held, parents may drop children off at St. Mary’s Chapel in the Parish House at 9:00 a.m. for this service of story and song through which they will engage the scripture for the day. Children will be escorted to the church to join their families at The Peace for Eucharist.
Sunday School
Formation for children and youth is held at 10:30 a.m. upstairs in the Custis House for middle and high school youth and in the Parish House for three-year-olds through 5th graders. With such wonderful growth in the program (we have added several 3-4 year olds), we have a new program offered just for this age group. At 9:15 a.m., they will go in the classroom next to the Nursery, where an age-appropriate lesson will be provided.  The 3-4 year olds will join all of us in BIG church at the Peace and, when we come back after Communion, they will rejoin for a Sunday School lesson.
Children's Choirs
Joyful Noise & Choristers, our youth choirs, rehearse in the Choir Room of the Parish House most Sundays at 11:00 a.m., directed by Genrose Lashinger (ages K-2nd grade; and Ann Porter (; 3rd through middle school). If your child(ren) would like to join the choirs, please contact them directly.

Children's & Youth Programming in June
Sunday, June 1, 8, 22 & 29
Children's Church will be held in St. Mary's Chapel in the Parish House at 9:15 a.m.  Feel free to drop your child/ren off beginning at 9:00 a.m., then head down to the "big" church and be sure to save them a seat, as they will rejoin the congregation at the Peace.
Children's & Youth Programming in July
Children's Church will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays, July 6, 13, 20 & 27 in St. Mary's Chapel in the Parish House.  Youth activities are being planned, so please be sure to watch future issues of The Chronicle.

Vacation Bible School: WELCOME, Give & Receive God's Great Love
Our theme this year for Vacation Bible School is such a great way to make all people who come and join us feel welcome. It is a theme of Hospitality.  This year, VBS will be held at Bruton Parish Church the week of August 4-8th from 9:00 a.m. until noon for children from three-years-old through 5th grade from Bruton, St. Martin's and Hickory Neck churches.  Everyone will feel welcome as we tell stories that focus on Jesus Receiving Strangers (Abraham and Sarah welcome three visitors), Caring for Neighbors, Meeting Jesus (the story of Zacchaeus) and so much more!

During this week, we plan to not only welcome those from our own parish, but invite others to feel welcomed and teach them what it means to make people feel part of a community.  If you have  grandchildren who will be in town that week, have them join us.  We will sing, talk, play, listen, and just have fun!

The VBS curriculum is designed for our children ages three through fifth grade, but we do not discriminate!  We would love teens and adults of all ages and genders to come be a part of this great experience, as you will grow spiritually as well.  VBS really is for our entire church family. Share the love of God by volunteering that week or help with preparations leading up to the week of VBS.
Physical registration forms are available in the Parish House reception area or download it here (you’ll need 8.5x14” paper).  It is important that you register by Sunday, July 27, so that we can accomodate all.  The cost for VBS is $15 for the first child and $10 for the second ($25 maximum per family).

We need all ages to volunteer to help with: arts and crafts; decorations; shepherds; music/song leader/instrumentalist; nursery; outreach project; recreation/games; registration; snacks; prayer team; early morning childcare (8:30-9:00 a.m.).  Please donate the following items and bring them by the Parish House: nametags; welcome signs; floormats; pineapples; and someone to burn CDs (we have the materials, just need the hands!).

If you have ideas to share or want to volunteer, please contact Meghan Brewer, Coordinator of Children's & Youth Formation, as soon as possible (email; 757-345-6489; 252-347-7078).
