The Kitchen Ministry is a dedicated and active group of women and men who are charged with the responsibility of preparing and serving at receptions following services for baptism and funerals. The group also oversees, evaluates and works to improve resources in the Parish House kitchen. Special events may be added at the discretion of the Ministry including preparing and serving dinners for the Grove Community Outreach Center and assisting in other Bruton Parish events. In 2006, the Kitchen Ministry published a new cookbook, Beyond Loaves and Fishes ($23). In 226 pages, the cookbook includes wonderful kitchen tested recipes; original art work from parishioners; and anecdotes and historical references from the church’s nearly 300 year history. The cookbook is available through the Bruton Parish Shop or at the Reception Desk in the Parish House.

A Recipe For Kitchen Ministry

Gently combine one generous cup each of caring and commitment.

Slowly stir in a heaping cup of joy. Turn mixture out onto a surface

lightly floured with faith and knead thoroughly, using lots of elbow grease.

Sprinkle with laughter. Turn into pan and bake. Share with others.

If you enjoy cooking, planning, entertaining and working together, please consider joining Kitchen Ministry (KM). We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 10:30 in Lewis Hall, and we welcome everyone.

We’ve branched out this year. Our goal is to foster fellowship through two committees within our ministry. Kitchen Ministry One hosts baptismal and funeral receptions and prepares and serves four Grove dinners every year. Kitchen Ministry Two is responsible for planning and hosting, or helping another group to host, special parish events centered around the kitchen. KM members can participate in the activities of both committees or can choose to work on one committee only. We are a pretty relaxed and open group of volunteers, and no member is expected to contribute to all of the committee activities. We all do what we can.

If you are interested in joining our group, you can follow the sounds of laughter and chatter through the Parish House into the kitchen, or you can call Marlene Turner via email at kitchen@brutonparish.org.
