2024 will be a year to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the founding of Bruton Parish Church.

During those three and a half centuries, millions of people have entered the church seeking the inspiration of the word of God through worship, study, music, community service and fellowship. All who have done so have become a part of our church's enduring story.

As current members of Bruton, you are part of that history. Your participation in worship, your stewardship, and your willingness to serve God through the church in any of the many available ways is worthy of His praise and of celebration.

In the coming year of 2024, we invite all members to join us in fellowship as we once again reflect on our history,

consider who we are now and what we hope to become. We will also look forward to considering ways to glorify God

in the future and share the joy of who we are with all who encounter us. We will do this with a series of events throughout

the year that will be inspiring and engaging for all ages.

Annual John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Concert

All are welcome to attend this free concert in the church on Saturday, April 27, at 8pm.

This year’s performance takes place within the commemorative 350th year since Bruton Parish’s founding

and will feature music from the past and present.  Handel’s multi-movement Anthem, O Come, Let Us Sing,

which he wrote while serving the Duke of Chandos in Cannons, England. Musick’s Jubilee, by British composer

Andrew Carter represents the present day with a large, joyous work initially composed for Otley Choral Society to

celebrate its 50th anniversary season in 1993. Mark your calendar to come and celebrate the legacy of

John D. Rockefeller, Jr. which continues to support the music ministry of our parish.

Bishop Franklin

Our next presentation for the 350th anniversary will be at 10am on Saturday, May 4, in the parish house.

The Rt. Rev’d R.W. Franklin will join us to talk about the Church’s more recent history. Bishop Franklin has served the

Church by holding several important leadership positions. The Rt. Rev. R. William Franklin continues to serve the

Anglican Studies concentration at Union Theological Seminary as an adjunct professor. Bishop Franklin served as

Diocesan Bishop of Western New York from 2011 until April 2019. Before his consecration as bishop he served as professor

at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, Harvard Divinity School, The General Theological Seminary, as Dean of

Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, on the staff of Trinity Church, Copley Square, in Boston, and as Interim Director of the Anglican

Center in Rome. In addition to his role at Union Theological Seminary, Bishop Franklin serves as Assisting Bishop of the

Episcopal Diocese of Long Island.

Friends of Bruton Sponsored - Heritage Tour

In May of 1607, 144 passengers and crew landed at what was to become Jamestown. Their purpose was to establish England’s

claim to North America, search for gold or silver, find a passage to the Pacific Ocean, harvest natural resources, and trade

with the inhabitants. Along with those plans they brought their Anglican faith.

As part of our year-long celebration of 350 years since the founding of Bruton Parish, Friends of Bruton, Our Worldwide Congregation is offering a tour specifically designed for visits to sites related to the founding of Jamestown. The tour will feature

visits to Anglican churches important to our faith. The itinerary is designed so that the group can attend Sunday worship service

at Canterbury Cathedral, the Mother Church of Anglicanism and seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the ceremonial head

of the Worldwide Anglican Communion.

Dr. William Kelso, world-renowned archaeologist, who spent years studying the roots of Jamestown and its founders,

has worked with us to develop an extraordinary itinerary scheduled for September 16 – 26, 2024.

We hope that once you have read the itinerary you will want to sign up for this unique opportunity.

The cut-off date is fast approaching! Some details in the brochure have changed to be more flexible for you,

so be sure to either contact Far Horizons or BPC@brutonparish.org.

As the commemoration progresses through 2024, we will let you know about upcoming events,

inviting participation by members of all ages and the community at large. We personally invite you, especially if you have not

recently attended a church function, to join us for these events to enjoy the Bruton family fellowship

as we together thank God for the blessings showered upon us in our first 350 years,

and we look forward with joyful anticipation to the next 350.

As other events are known, we will continue to add to this list of activities.
